Kodagu


Kodagu a district of Karnataka State in southern India is also known by the name of Coorg. Kodagu's capital is Madikeri. Kodagu is situated on the eastern slopes of the Western Ghats.

Kodagu is rich in wildlife and has three wildlife sanctuaries-Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary, Talakaveri Wildlife Sanctuary and Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary and one national park- Nagarahole or Rajiv Gandhi National Park.
The flora of the forest consists of Michelia champaca (Champak), Mesua (Ironwood), Diospyros (Ebony and other species), Toona ciliata (Indian mahogany), Chukrasia tabularis, Calophyllum angustifolium (Poon spar), Canarium strictum (Black Dammar), Artocarpus, Dipterocarpus, Garcinia, Euonymus, Cinnamomum, Myristica, Vaccinium, Myrtaceae, Melastomataceae, Rubus (three species), and a rose. Cardamom, Areca, plantains, canes, wild Black pepper, tree and other ferns, and arums are also found here.
In the west of Kodagu the most common trees are the Dalbergia Latifolia (Black wood), Pterocarpus Marsupium (Kino tree), Terminalia Tomentosa (Matthi), Lagerstroemia Parviflora (Benteak), Anogeissus Latifolia (Dindul), Bassia Latifolia, Butea Monosperma, Nauclea Parvifiora, and several species of acacia. In the eastern part of Kodagu Teak and Sandalwood are also grown.
The Asian Elephant, Tiger, Leopard, Dhole, Gaur, Boar, and several species of Deer comes under the fauna of Kodagu.
The major places for tourists attractions are-
Talakaveri is the place from where the River Kaveri originated.
Nisargadhama- Formed by the river Kaveri, Nisargadhama is an island and picnic spot near Kushalanagara.

Iruppu Falls- The Lakshmana Tirtha River flows nearby Iruppa falls which is considered as a sacred spot in south Kodagu in the Brahmagiri hill range.
Abbey Falls- Is a scenic waterfall 5 km from Madikeri.
Dubare- Mainly an elephant-capturing and training camp of the Forest Department at the edge of Dubare forest; on the bank of the river Kaveri along the Kushalanagara - Siddapur road.
Dargah Sharief of Yemmemadu- Dargah Sharief, the Holy Tomb, of Yemmemadu is one of the most sacred shrines for Muslims in Kodagu district.
Mandal Patti is 28 km from Madikeri.
How to reach Kodagu-

There is a good road connections to the east and west. The nearest railway stations are Mysuru and Hassan to reach at Kodagu. If you want to come here by air than the nearest airport is Mangalore International Airport which is around 180 km away.

Horsley Hill Station

Horsley Hills in Andhra Pradesh rich in it's flora and fauna have been a popular destination for the sun-scorched souls since years. The Chenchu tribes largely inhabit the Horsley Hills.

The airports at Tirupati and Bangalore cater to the air travel to Horsley Hills. The railhead at Madanapalle Road is the nearest to the Horsley Hills. Auli

Auli, the famous ski destination is located in the Chamoli district in the lofty peaks of Himalayan mountains of Uttarakhand, India. This small town has now become the major tourist attractions of Uttarakhand.

The main attraction of Auli is skiing. Auli is considered as the best skiing slope found in Asia. The vast snow-capped landscape and slopes flanked by oak and coniferous forests make Auli an ideal destination for skiing lovers. The best season for skiing in Auli is from November to March. As the route to Auli is very dangerous, it is not allowed to travel in night.

Auli is also surrounded by high peaks like Mana, Kamet and Nanda Devi that is the tallest of all. The Hathigauri, Neelkanth, Comet and Eravath mountains gives a panoramic view from Auli.

Auli is also the right place for the National Winter games that are held in the months of February and March. There are many interesting spots around Auli. Joshimath, also called Jyotirmath is the site of one of the four religious centers established by the Hindu religious saint Adi Shankara. Badrinath, and Hemkunda sahib are among the famous religious centers located close to Auli.

Another tourist destination near Auli is Pithoragarh. Almora famous for many old temples is another important district near Auli. Traveling to Auli is a real adventure in itself. One can reach Auli by road which is the only means of transportation.

Mini Switzerland of India Khajjiar

A tiny hill station in Chamba District, is Khajjiar. While traveling to Khajjiar from Dalhousie, one is tempted to stop at Kalatop which is undoubtely famous for its wildlife sanctuary. Here, you can have a different view of species of wildlife.

Hill station Khajjiar is surrounded by green meadows and dense forests. Khajjiar is often called the Mini Switzerland of Himachal Pradesh. This hill station has a rare combination of three ecosystems: lake, pasture and forest, all in one place.

Pathankot 142 km is the nearest railway station to reach up Khajjiar.

Coonoor

Coonoor is a town and a municipality which is situated in the Nilgiris district in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. Coonoor is well known for its production of Nilgiri tea. Now Coonoor is considered as the most happening place for the tourists.

Meadow of flowers Gulmarg

Gulmarg which truly stands for a meadow of flowers is a beautiful hill station that lies at a distance of 56 kilometers from Srinagar, Kashmir. Gulmarg is among the most favourite holiday destinations. In winter, the stunning Gulmarg turns into a skiing resort.
